Computer Support & Information Services Policies and Related Information

  • All employees are expected to read and abide by the computing policies of the Hospital, the University, and CSIS -- Computer Support & Information Services.

  • If your machine is continually experiencing popup ads or has other signs of malicious software (for questions about spyware, adware, and malware in general, please see the FAQs), we will investigate the problem on your PC, but we will probably decide to return it to our offices to backup, wipe, and re-image the machine.  In a small number of cases, it may be possible to remove the offending software when we initially look at the machine, but in the majority of cases, we find that it can take longer to clean a machine than to reinstall Windows on it, and we find that cleaning a machine is not always 100% effective.

  • Peer-to-peer file-sharing software is prohibited on our computers, as it often brings with it other software that threatens the integrity and security of the computer, other computers in the network, and any Patient Information stored on the computer or the network.  Additionally, said software is commonly used for transport of copyrighted materials across the network, which is a violation of University policy, including those computers on the hospital network.

  • If your computer is found to be interacting with the network in a negative way, for example by forming a large number of connections to other computers or attempting to infect other computers, it may be disconnected from the network by the networking group.  If this occurs, we will have to take the machine, back it up, wipe the drive, and reinstall Windows on it.  After this occurs, then we will make a request to the appropriate networking group to reactivate your port.  This process can take a fair amount of time.

  • When we reinstall Windows on a computer, expect a turnaround time of approximately 3 days.  Check the FAQ for a description of what is involved.
